There are some 130 lakes in West Donegal, and possibly almost as many islands and rocks off the coast; with Aranmore and Tory Island being the largest two. Needless to say this is a popular area for sea angling; - if you don't fancy the open seas, the lakes are well provided with salmon and trout. Permits for fishing and boats can be arranged, along with detailed angling maps and guides.
Perhaps Dungloe is best known for an annual event that takes place in late July, known as The Mary from Dungloe International Festival: - first held in 1968; this popular Irish festival centres on a contest to find a young woman who will be crowned Mary from Dungloe.
